Technical data and information of an electric fence energizer

All of our electric fence energizers are equipped with a table (available in our online shop and catalog) that provides all the important information. Here's a brief explanation of the technical specifications:

"Max. Voltage": The maximum voltage (specified in volts), also called output voltage, represents the current flow measured directly at the energizer. However, since no conductor material or grounding is connected, this value is not particularly relevant in practice.

"Voltage at 500 ohms": Represents the voltage at the fence itself when an animal touches it. This means that when the animal touches the fence, this electrical voltage flows through the animal. This value is relevant for practical purposes.

"Charging energy": Specified in joules (J). It is the energy (voltage (V) x current (amperes) x time (seconds)) that the device draws from the power outlet or battery for its own use. This is irrelevant for practical purposes.

"Pulse energy at 500 ohms": Also called discharge energy. Also measured in joules (J), it is the energy the fence emits when an animal touches it. Simply put, this is the energy that generates the electric shock. The pulse energy is what the animal feels! This is where the deterrent effect occurs, and this value is therefore well suited for comparing different devices.

"Fence lengths for different vegetation types": This information provides guidelines for how long a fence can be with different vegetation types (i.e., with or without vegetation). Whether vegetation is present or not is important because it can conduct electricity if it touches the conductor material. This means that high vegetation can lead to energy loss and thus a reduced protective effect of the fence.

"Power consumption": Usually specified in watts (W) for mains-powered devices and in milliamperes (mA) for rechargeable or battery-powered devices.

"Power supply": Depending on the device type (mains (230 V), battery (9 V), rechargeable battery (12 V), or combination device), you will be shown which power source you need.
